3D Printing, Building the Future

The world’s first 3D-printed office building was completed in Dubai in August 2016. The Dubai government announced that future buildings would adopt 3D printing for green and sustainable construction. This project now serves as the headquarters of the “Museum of the Future” in Dubai and is one of Winsun’s landmark 3D-printed architectural projects abroad.
The project was designed by the well-known U.S. architectural planning firm Gensler, along with Thornton Tomasetti and Syska Hennessy. Winsun was responsible for the 3D printing, overseas transportation, and on-site installation. The office building has since become a well-known symbol of technological innovation in Dubai. The UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister, and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has also publicly endorsed it.

In 2021, the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) office was awarded a prestigious Guinness World Record certificate for building the “world’s first 3D-printed commercial building” during a ceremony held at the Emirates Towers in Dubai. The award ceremony was attended by Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, Talal Omar, Guinness World Records Regional Director for MENA, as well as the foundation’s management and staff.

Today, our Chairman, Mr. Ma Yihe, arrived in Dubai and visited the site to observe the current condition and use of the 3D-printed government office building.

The Dubai 3D-printed government office is one of Winsun’s classic achievements in the field of 3D-printed architecture. The entire structure—from the base to the walls and the roof—was printed as a unified whole. It was a highly challenging undertaking both at the time of construction and even by today’s standards.

Winsun printed a total of 17 offices for the Dubai government. All units were printed at the Suzhou Industrial Park factory in China and then shipped across the sea to Dubai for on-site assembly. This not only demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to 3D-printed architecture but also reflects the government’s recognition and trust in Winsun’s 3D printing technology.

Looking ahead, Winsun will continue to deepen its efforts in the architectural 3D printing industry, focusing on intelligent equipment development and new materials made from recycled solid waste. Our goal is to leverage digital 3D printing technologies to process industrial waste, mine tailings, and construction debris, achieving high-value utilization of solid waste and supporting the development of “zero-waste cities.”
