3D Printing, Building the Future
On April 3, 2024, Gaudi successfully completed its first 3D-printed housing project in the United States, located in Los Angeles, California.
To address the growing demand for affordable housing in the U.S., Gaudi collaborated with local non-profit and charitable organizations in Chino Hills, Los Angeles County, to provide safe and reliable 3D-printed homes for women and children facing long-term homelessness or domestic violence.
The project includes a one-bedroom unit of approximately 700 square feet and a two-bedroom unit of about 800 square feet. To ensure the structural integrity of the buildings, Gaudi adopted in-situ printing technology, using a mobile 3D printer to directly print the walls on-site. The structure was printed in a continuous, one-stroke form, resulting in a building that is both strong and aesthetically pleasing.
The total floor area of the project is around 1,900 square feet, and all wall structures were completed in just 56 hours of printing. After 28 days, the printed walls reached a compressive strength of 7,270 psi, which is two to three times stronger than that of conventional construction. The 3D printed walls also achieved fire resistance ratings up to the ASTM E119 standard limit.
This project marks the first 3D-printed residential housing officially permitted and supported by the State of California, representing a major milestone for Gaudi’s expansion in the U.S. market. Its completion not only demonstrates the technological capabilities and sustainability of Gaudi’s 3D-printed construction system but also paves the way for the wider adoption of 3D-printed housing across California.
Guided by the mission of “providing high-quality, low-cost, and eco-friendly 3D-printed housing for all,” Gaudi will continue to grow and innovate in the North American market, striving to offer safe, sustainable, and affordable homes for people in need.
Make your dreams come true by building the home you have always wanted!
